Restaurants in Puerto Escondido (top 10!)
by Josien - 10 May, 2020
Not sure where to go for a good meal? Try one of our favorites! We have lived in Puerto Escondido for a couple of months and have visited many restaurants in this Mexican beach town. This is our top 10 of restaurants in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico:
At El Espadín you should always ask for a table at the terrace with a stunning view on Playa Carrizalillo. This restaurant is situated high up on the rocks and, very important, has amazing food. It’s not your average taco place, so expect the prices to be higher than average, but it’s totally worth it. It’s one of the more exclusive restaurants in Puerto Escondido, so make sure you have a reservation.
Great place for celebrations and date nights! Keep your eyes on the horizon to spot whales occasionally passing by and enjoy the sunset!
The best pizza in town! This hipster cozy restaurant offers a great menu of pizzas and pasta and it never lets you down. Our favorite is their Mundaka pizza, but feel free to explore the menu yourself! It’s located right in the heart of La Punta, hard to miss when you’re in town!
Right across Mundaka, you will find Café Ole, the best breakfast in town for the ultimate hipster. Healthy and BIG plates. Make sure you are hungry because you’re in for a treat! You can order pitchers of fresh-pressed juice and all for very little prices. I could go here every morning, my favorite breakfast restaurant in Puerto Escondido!
A lovely romantic spot right in Rinconada with a delicious menu. We have been here a couple of times, just because their tuna steak (and apple cake) is the best I had in Puerto Escondido. Service, food and drinks are on point at El Nene, the perfect recipe for a great dinner night.
Something else than your average restaurant! This food truck court is a romantic place, well hidden in Zicatela. Long tables for big groups, lights in the trees, and lots of food and drinks to choose from. When we were there the sushi truck was closed (unfortunately) but the burger place was a great alternative. A few cocktails later we were good to go home, but we absolutely loved this place. A lot of our nomad friends went here often, so definitely recommended if you want to meet new people too!
Another great place for breakfast in La Punta! Super small, but cozy and absolutely tasty food for a fair price. Don’t expect pitchers with juice here, but big glasses with special smoothies and superfood. It’s a bit hidden, but you will love it when you find it! One of the best smaller restaurants in Puerto Escondido.
The best taco’s for the lowest price in La Punta! The tables and chairs aren’t the best, but that is exactly what makes the place. It’s like a bar where everything is possible. It’s another small place, but they manage to fit everybody in. Even when we came with a group of 20 to support our friend who plays some live music there on Thursday nights. Absolutely the right vibe you need for whatever your plans are for the night!
This is a boutique hotel which I highly recommend to stay at, and/or to spend the day at around the pool, in the fitness area or tennis field, and end the day in their restaurant for homemade lasagna. It’s the best! The owners are very friendly ex-pats who are willing to help you with all your questions. But basically you have to go there for the lasagna, just do it!
This place is also a great place to work from as Digital Nomad!
If you’re looking for a restaurant at the beach with sunbeds AND a good menu: Punta Puerto is your spot. The sunbeds are for free if you spend money on food and drinks and it is located right in the center of La Punta. They have healthy choices and avocado lovers can eat their hearts out here. But basically all you need to do here is relax, sip on your cocktail (piña mezcal!), and spot the whales from your sunbed. Enjoy!
This is a great spot for some healthy food or breakfast/brunch or a light meal! Spirulina offers juices, waters, smoothies, avocado toasts, acai bowls, etc. Great food! The prices are very reasonable and it’s a quieter spot in Zicatela. In my opinion, one of the better restaurants in Puerto Escondido. Check out their events too: yoga, hand reading, and massages. Would recommend.
